Image
Wick, Scotland Walter Green (1786-1860) was the son of James Green (b. 1760) and Helen Geddes (1760-1842). He married Margaret Sutherland on July 1, 1815, and they became the parents of eight children.  Walter was a boat builder at Wick, which is located on the North Sea at the tip of the northeast coast of Scotland. In the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, Wick was a center for the herring industry. In fact, the industry thrived to such a degree at Wick that the town was sometimes referred to as "the largest herring port in Europe."
